Android 4.4 KitKat October Release Confirmed…By Nestle?

Android surprised us all earlier this month by officially announcing the name of the next version of Android, 4.4 KitKat. Goggle did not disclose when Android 4.4 would be released, but a new Facebook post from Nestle’s German KitKat Facebook page confirms that Android KitKat will be released sometime in October.

While this partnership still has a lot of us scratching our heads, it will no doubt provide more excitement for the Android ecosystem, with the Android brand invading store shelves around the world. Since the Facebook comment comes from Nestle, it could still be incorrect. We’re expecting to see Google announce the Nexus 5 within the next couple of weeks, alongside Android 4.4. In the past, it has taken at least a month after the announcements for the new Nexus devices and Android versions to roll out, so Nestle may have gotten the release dates and the announcement dates mixed up, or maybe something is lost in the translation.

Either way, we are sure to see Android 4.4 in the flesh soon, but we may not get our hands on it until November. The Facebook post follows below. For those who don’t speak Deutsche, here’s the translation:

Mysterious Nexus phone shows up in Google KitKat statue video

Update: Well that didn't take long, it looks like the video has gone private. We at least have the above screenshot for you to take a look at.

Original story: Google took the unveiling of Android 4.4 KitKat seriously today by putting up one of its trademark statues of a KitKat-shaped Android on the Google lawn, and released a promo video showing the setup. The most interesting part of this video may not be the statue itself, but what one Googler is using to take a picture of the event.

As seen in the still we've grabbed from the video (seen above), someone is holding onto a phone unlike we've seen before. It's big, flat, says "Nexus" on the back in landscape orientation and looks a heck of a lot like a shrunken Nexus 7 (2013) — the materials and camera lens look nearly identical to the latest tablet.

Not much more can be seen from the video aside from a few frames and a nearby Nexus 4 for size comparison, but we know this isn't any phone available today. You'll find the video after the break, you can scrub forward to about 35 seconds if you want to cut to the Nexus phone action.

Say hello to Android 4.4 KitKat, coming next in line

Google recently announced its latest version of Android - 4.3 Jelly Bean, which turned out to be nothing to write home about. Ever since then, the next iteration of Android OS has taken the spotlight and has been the talk of the town.
Just when all of us thought that Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie would be the next upcoming version of the Android OS, Google has announced that the successor of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean would be named KitKat (yeah, the brand) and it is Android 4.4, not 5.0 as rumored before.

Sundar Pichai, the Android and Chrome head has confirmed the naming scheme of the next version of Android. Android 4.4 KitKat is named after Neslte's popular candy bar, which is trademarked and licensed by Hershey in the US.
Google also says that "it's our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody". The bold statement also suggests that Google plans to make use of its next iteration of Android in smartwatches, gaming consoles and other electronic gadgets.
Sundar Pichai, in his Google+ post also revealed that Android device activations have now passed 1 billion and says he "can't wait to release the next version of the platform."

Every corner, every edge has been carefully considered and crafted.

It really does taste as good as it looks.
With adjustable orientation that works perfectly in portrait or landscape.
Sure, it's a little tongue-in-cheek fun poking at overly-lofty technology commercials, but you're crazy if you don't think this is a brilliant marketing campaign. Let's hope we find out the true features of the operating system side of things sooner rather than later.
